Mobile phone maker Karbonn Mobiles is gearing up for the launch of its own smartphones that will run under Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, and it also plans on releasing a device that will sport dual-boot capabilities.

According to a recent report coming from Times of India, the handset vendor is planning on loading said device with both Android and Windows Phone, and it will make it official by June this year.

At the moment, Karbonn’s lineup of smartphones is dominated by Android, but the company is looking to expand its offering and to target more market segments.

On February 23, Microsoft has confirmed during a press event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, that Karbonn is one of the latest phone makers to have agreed to launch Windows Phone devices, but it did not offer further details on the matter.

The handset vendor’s chairman Sudhir Hasija, however, has already confirmed that the company is planning dual-OS phones in about six months, and that they will be aimed at business users.

“Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows phones in about three months,” Hasija reportedly said.

The one thing that hasn’t been confirmed as of now is the price tag with which said devices will be released. However, we don’t expect them to be costly, especially when looking at the current lineup of Karbonn devices.

Apparently, the mobile phone maker is also gearing up for setting up a manufacturing unit in India and is aiming at a capacity of around one million phones a month. At the moment, the vendor is sourcing all of its products from Taiwan and Korea.

Apparently, the move is not aimed at decreasing costs, but mainly at ensuring that the company will be able to bring new devices to the market faster than before.

At the same time, the company has confirmed plans to focus on increasing sales through applications that make use of augmented reality technologies.

In fact, the handset vendor has already announced software aimed at both smartphones and tablet PCs, which takes advantage of said technology. These apps are aimed at bringing out features and games based on characters from the movie Kochadaiiyaan.

Karbonn is only one of the mobile phone makers expected to join the Windows Phone bandwagon this year, as Microsoft also announced partnerships with some other companies too, including Lenovo, Xolo, Foxconn, and others.
