The smartphone may be announced in the next couple of days

Indian OEM Karbonn plans to bring another high-end Android smartphone in India, the Titanium Hexa, which is now listed on its official website. However, the smartphone hasn’t been announced yet, though we expect that to happen within the next few days, if not today.

Karbonn is one of the top 5 major Indian OEMs that regularly launch Android smartphones. It’s one of the few that can successfully compete with Micromax on top tier devices.

However, on the Indian market, hardware is not everything. An emerging market such as India demands powerful smartphones priced lower than usual. Well-established brands headquartered in other countries did not learn this lesson, which is why native OEMs are thriving in India.

Karbonn Titanium Hexa will be the second smartphone to come equipped with a hexa-core processor, after Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo.

This would be in fact its main competitor on the Indian market, but we’re confident that Karbonn’s smartphone will be much cheaper than Samsung phablet.

Hardware-wise, there are some differences between the Galaxy Note 3 Neo and the Titanium Hexa, and for the most part in the latter’s favor.

For example, the former packs an 8-megapxiel rear-facing camera, whereas Karbonn’s smartphone boasts an enhanced 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD video recording.

For the time being, it’s unclear which company will provide Karbonn with the hexa-core processor, but the Indian company has confirmed that its smartphone’s CPU will be clocked at 1.5GHz. Fonearena reports that the Titanium Hexa might be equipped with MediaTek’s unannounced MT6591 chipset.

Another advantage of the Karbonn Titanium Hexa over the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo would be the fact that it comes with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box.

Samsung’s phablet is powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform and there’s no statement confirming that a KitKat update will be coming in the future.

Another strong point of the Titanium Hexa is the 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. The Galaxy Note 3 Neo’s display on the other hand only supports HD (720p) resolution.

When it comes to connectivity, Karbonn Titanium Hexa offers the full package. Indian users will be able to take advantage of 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support. There’s no LTE obviously, but it wouldn’t have been useful in India anyway.

It is also worth mentioning that Karbonn’s phablet seems to be powered by a rather low-capacity battery in comparison with what it needs to sustain. According to the Indian company, the device will pack a 2050 mAh battery.

[UPDATE]: Karbonn officially announced Titanium Hexa will go on sale in India in early April. The smartphone will be available for Rs 16,990 ($275 / €200) outright.
