Indian company Karbonn is trying to maintain its number 3 spot on the ranking list of most popular smartphone makers in India by offering a wide range of Android devices at exceptional prices.

However, the Indian OEM has fierce competitors like Micromax, Lava Mobiles, Intex and iBall, not to mention major companies with big marketing budgets such as Nokia, Samsung and LG.

This is probably one of the reasons why Karbonn plans to launch no less than 4 high-end smartphones by the end of March. These devices will include some of the most powerful chipsets available on the market, which will give Karbonn a slight advantage over the competition.

The folks over at Gizbot have been tipped by a trusted source close to the matter that Karbonn will be releasing its first smartphone to be equipped with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

The said smartphone will be launched in the coming weeks and will be packed with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Furthermore, it will boast a 5-inch full HD (1080p) capacitive touchscreen display, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Aside from the Qualcomm-based smartphone that should arrive by the end of March, Karbonn plans to launch two true octa-core smartphones around the same timeframe.

Both high-end devices will be equipped with MediaTek’s octa-core chipsets and will sport 5-inch and 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) capacitive touchscreen displays.

Last but not least, Karbonn is rumored to launch another high-end smartphone that will be equipped with a hexa-core chipset. The first handset to be powered by a hexa-core chipset is Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, but it’s unclear whether Karbonn smartphone will ship with the same chipset.

For the time being, no other details on Karbonn’s hexa-core smartphone are available, but stay tuned for more info on the matter.
