Smartphones today can be really cheap despite packing pretty decent hardware capabilities, but some of them are even cheaper than you might expect, and the newly unveiled Karbonn A50S is one such example.

The mobile phone has gone official in India today with a price tag of only Rs. 2,790 ($47/€35) attached to it, and it is already available for purchase in the country, exclusively via Flipkart.

The new Karbonn A50S has been released in Black and White versions and is expected to prove a nice option for those looking for a budget handset.

In fact, at this price, the phone could easily prove a great competitor for handsets such as Moto E, Nokia X or Xperia E1, which sport a bit higher price tags, albeit also featuring some higher hardware capabilities.

Given the fact that many users in India are looking for highly affordable smartphones that can replace feature phones, we can imagine that Karbonn A50S will easily attract a lot of them to it.

Those of you who will purchase the new device will enjoy a 3.5-inch touchscreen display on its front, one that is capable of offering an HVGA (480 x 320 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, the mobile phone arrives on the market with a 1.2GHz dual-core MediaTek processor inside, complemented by only 256MB of RAM. That might not bode well for those interested in a bit more processing power, but others will certainly be more interested in the phone’s pricing.

The specs list of this handset also includes 512MB of internal storage, along with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, most probably capable of supporting cards of up to 32GB.

On the back, the new Karbonn A50S sports a 2-megapixel camera, complemented by a VGA front camera for making video calls.

Moreover, the mobile phone sports 2G EDGE connectivity (no 3G, it seems), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and built-in GPS receiver, while being powered by an 1100mAh battery. The handset measures 61.8 x 115.7 x 10.5mm.

Karbonn A50S has been announced with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, yet there’s little chance that it will receive an update to newer platform iteration, considering its hardware specs.

Even so, the mobile phone should be able to deliver a nice experience to those coming from a feature phone and will easily prove an upgrade for them. Those of you interested in learning more on the phone or willing to purchase it should head over to Flipkart’s website for that.
