Another day, another Karbonn smartphone get launched in India. We reported yesterday on the A6 budget-friendly Android phone and now it looks like another cheap handset is available for purchase in the country, the A4.

As the name suggests, Karbonn A4 is less-featured than the A6, but it’s also a bit cheaper. Potential customers can now purchase the Karbonn A4 via Infibeam for Rs 4,890 outright, which is about $90 or €70.

However, the retailer offers Karbonn A4 buyers a free Sandisk 8GB microSD card worth Rs 699 ($13/€10). Check it out here.

Unlike Karbonn A6 that ships with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, the A4 is powered by Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread platform.

Those who wish to purchase the Karbonn A4 should not expect any major software updates for the smartphone. The A4 is likely to remain stuck on Gingerbread until it reaches “end of life” status.

All in all, Karbonn A4 offers dual-SIM (GSM / GSM) capability, along with in-built Google applications and services, including Gmail, Google Play and Gtalk.

The phone sports a more than decent 4-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 262k colors.

On the back, the A4 packs a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with video recording and face detection, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Karbonn A4 is equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 1GHz, which is complemented by 512MB of RAM and 104MB of internal memory. The latter can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

Other highlights of the budget-friendly phone include: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, EDGE, FM Radio, Tethering via Wi-Fi hotspot, 3.5mm audio jack and 1400 mAh Li-Ion battery. The latter has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
