Quantic Dream has once again impressed with a technology demo at the Game Developers Conference effect, showing a video of an android named Kara as she is first put together, then manifests in strange ways and is then disassembled.

The demo was linked to the PlayStation 3 and was running in real time although the team refused to say whether it would form the actual basis for a new video game.

Speaking to VG247 David Cage, who is the leader of the development team at Quantic Dream, talked about his focus on the PlayStation 3, saying, “I don’t think so. You can do much more with this console. And Kara just shows that we can do more than what we did with Heavy Rain, and hopefully, what we show in the future will prove we can do much more than what Kara did.”

He also revealed that the Kara tech demo was one year old and was only destined to be shared with executives at Sony initially, but the team saw that it still held up and decided to show it to the general public.

Cage also talked about where he drew his inspiration from for the game development, adding, “I’m very interested in all human topics in one way or another. You know, I don’t think Kara is really about sci-fi. I think it’s just a background. I’m more interested in the emotional questions Kara asks.

“It happens to be used in the context of sci-fi, but it could have taken place in the past, future, or present. All the stories I tell are about characters and emotions.”

Kara is pretty impressive and the process of showing a tech demo before announcing a full game seems to mirror the release of The Casting ahead of the full reveal for Heavy Rain.

Any video game based on Kara will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
