14 DAY TRIAL // This should come as no surprise since we’re talking about a man who calls himself Yeezus, a pun on his stage name Yeezy and Jesus: Kanye West has set aside $5 million (€3.73 million) to build a church for Kim Kardashian. And he’s looking to the famous Sagrada Familia for inspiration, it has emerged.
This comes from The National Enquirer, so it should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt. However, the tab claims to have it on very good authority that Kanye is determined to build a temple for his wife and he even expects his fans to chip in through donations.
Obviously, the money he’s set aside isn’t enough to erect the kind of building he has in mind, because nothing ever Kanye sets his mind on doing is “ordinary.”
“They want somewhere that weddings, baptisms and family funerals can take place for years to come. But Kanye being Kanye, it’s going to be ludicrously over the top! Kanye has visited the [Sagrada Familia] several times, and it takes his breath away every time. He’s always wanted something similar for his own family,” says a spy.
Yes, you read that right, “family.” The church Kanye wants to build won’t be just a church that he will dedicate to his reality star wife: he’s actually planning to turn it into a temple for himself, Kim, and their daughter North, including a “fancy” stained glass window with the three of them.
Sounds to us like Kanye too is looking to start his own religion and he’s thinking the three of them would be just perfect as object of adoration. Why else would he put that stained glass inside or, for that matter, expect people to donate money?
“Kanye sees it as a monument to him and Kim that will become a major landmark,” the insider continues. “He says everyone will want to see it, like the Hollywood sign or the Empire State Building.”
It’s no secret that Kanye considers himself and his wife the greatest thing to have happened to showbiz since the invention of television, which he’s never shy of reminding the world through his interviews or on-stage rants.
In his own mind, Kanye is an icon the likes of which the world has never seen. The same goes for Kim, whom he often compares to a modern Marilyn Monroe, only with a larger backside and more glamour in her little finger than the old Marilyn ever had – his words, not ours.
Considering this, would it really be that surprising if he built for them their own church? No, probably not.
