Rapper Kanye West tells Vibe magazine that less fans would mean more freedom

Kanye West was never the man to be afraid to speak his mind, be it for the better or for the worse. Moreover, even if there have been times when his words were either completely off-track or, oppositely, taken out of context and made to sound like that, this is one rapper who will continue to speak his mind. His most recent interview with Vibe magazine is just another illustrative example of that.

Coming to show that, sometimes, an artist’s mind or the way they rationalize things can be quite a confusing thing, Kanye told Vibe that he would like to have less fans. For him, less fans would equal less responsibility and, thus, the ability to pose without his clothes if he wanted to. While the connection does seem to be there at first sight, the reasoning is weird at best.

“I want the freedom of having less fans. It’s like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility.” the singer told the magazine. “It’s like Björk. If she wanted to pose naked, you’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s Björk.’ But if I wanted to [do so], people would draw all type of things into it.” Kanye further explained. To sum up, he’ll probably do it, regardless of the number of fans he has at that point - “I definitely feel like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll [do it].”

Aside from his clothing-related aspirations for the future, in the same interview, Kanye also speaks about wanting to “break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture,” no matter if some see his methods of doing so strange or not. Then again, it’s not like Kanye ever lived for the approval of the masses, since he is a one of a kind artist, who has enough standing to be placed in a league of his own.

“I believe I am the greatest entertainer of this generation,” Kanye also told Vibe with his characteristic lack of modesty. He must know what he’s saying, is all we can add.
