Before American Idol producers locked in Jennifer Lopez and will.i.am as judges for the upcoming season, Kanye West was in negotiations for a seat on the panel. He eventually decided to turn down the offer because he thought the show was “too mainstream.”

This is priceless, coming from a guy who’s dating a reality star (and I honestly mean no offense to Kim Kardashian by that, but she’s the very definition of “mainstream”) and who, after saying his child was his and not America’s, went on Kris Jenner’s show to help her get a ratings boost.

“He didn't want to go that mainstream,” an insider familiar with the negotiations says for Us Magazine.

“He didn't want to lose any street cred. So he turned it down,” adds the spy.

Though I appreciate Kanye as an artist, I guess it’s safe to say that he’s lost every shred of street cred already, so he didn’t have to worry about that. Can you imagine the kind of judge he would have been?
