Rapper Kanye West was an Amy Winehouse fan and, as a tribute, he decided to re-record one of her most famous songs and release it as a single. As per ongoing reports, Kanye put his own spin on “Back to Black.”

Known for his penchant for mixing various sounds and for adding a pitch of synthesizers as well, Kanye is not exactly the first name that comes to mind when one thinks “Amy Winehouse tribute.”

Nevertheless, he’s done it, recording his own version of Amy’s now-iconic “Back to Black.” The rapper will release it as a single next month, NME informs, citing ongoing and unconfirmed reports.

“The rapper, who has just released ‘Watch The Throne,’ his collaboration album with Jay-Z, will reportedly debut the track in London next month, according to the Daily Mirror,” NME writes.

“A source told the paper that the rapper had put his own spin on the title track from the singer’s hugely successful second album and that he has added synthesizers,” adds the same music-oriented publication.

Asked to describe the track, the spy says only this: “It’s pretty emotive. It’s Kanye singing from the heart – with synthesizers.”

However, if Amy’s fans can even begin to imagine how her iconic song would sound in Kanye’s interpretation, they can wait a bit longer until her own album comes out.

At the time of her death in July, the British Grammy-winning singer was working on her third studio material, the follow-up to the immensely successful “Back to Black.”

Different reports claim she had material for between one and three album, most of which is good to go and will see the light of day once her family gives their approval for the release.

Either way, it is believed that the tracks she wanted to include on her third album details her split from Blake Fielder-Civil and her struggle with addiction.

“It maps her decline into alcohol and drug addiction that contributed to her death,” one source was telling the British media some time ago, as we also reported.

If there is indeed an album, a release date should be announced soon. The same goes for the Kanye West cover of “Back to Black.”
