Industry insiders hate the attention they bring

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have taken the fashion world by storm, making important appearances at Paris Fashion Week with their daughter North in tow – and hundreds of screaming paparazzi and fans.

Getting this kind of attention while attending the most important event in fashion might be a big deal to them, but to fashion people, it’s nothing but a pain in the neck. These same people have come to refer to the famous couple by the phrase “fashion flu.”

And we all know how annoying the flu can get when you can’t get rid of it no matter what you do.

There is such a thing as overexposure, and Kimye’s doing it

They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity or too much media attention, but a new report suggests this saying is entirely dependent on context. When it comes to Paris Fashion Week, the kind of exposure and the frenzy Kim and Kanye generate is not desirable. In fact, it’s anything but.

Fashion insiders are now referring to Kimye as “fashion flu,” sick and tired of their antics, their obvious try-hard ways, the madness that seems to surround them wherever they go and the fact that they’re always late at fashion shows.

“People are so mad about Kimye being here,” an insider tells Page Six. “[They’re] fatigued with the whole family. They hold up shows and they draw paparazzi wherever they go. They’re seen here as the ultimate try-hards. It was funny when they were a novelty.”

The only thing about Kimye fashion insiders love is little North West, whom Kim has been dressing up in matching outfits to her own, taking her to see the shows first-row. She probably has no idea what she’s seeing and is bored out of her mind, but she’s being carted around town nonetheless.

Rubbing shoulders with the industry’s A-listers

Hated or not, Kim and Kanye are rubbing shoulders with the fashion industry’s greatest and most famous. Those of you who predicted this would happen – that Kanye would legitimize Kim and turn her from a ridiculed reality star into a fashion icon – were right.

Gone are the days when Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief for Vogue magazine, would refuse to sit in close proximity to Kim at an event, because today Kim gets front-row seats to the biggest shows at Paris Fashion Week, bar Dior.

She is, by all means, an A-lister herself, and no matter how much industry people resent it, there is little they can do to change it. Once she’s in, which she is, she would have to do something really horrible to be kicked out.

Yes, she’s obviously still a try-hard and she still has a long way to go until she is really the fashionista she imagines herself, but she’s making sure steps in the right direction.
