“We’re comrades in the envelope-pushing genre”

Kanye West has been getting more negative media attention in the past couple of months than he usually does, but that’s only because he’s been more active, doing appearances and interviews, and in the process, giving very controversial soundbites.

He’s not really doing anything out of the ordinary, Madonna says in a new interview with the New York Daily News - for him, that is. Kanye West is a genius, he’s the new, the black Madonna, the Queen of Pop proclaims.

Great minds think alike

Madonna’s newest album, “Rebel Heart,” is out in stores now, and she too did and said some pretty controversial things during the promo tour, from mooning photographers on the red carpet at the Grammys 2015, to erecting herself into a champion of all women out there, fighting against ageism and sexism.

Much like Kanye, Madonna has no filter when it comes to speaking her mind on topics she’s passionate about, whether politics, or showbiz, art or life in general. Again, like Kanye, she is often criticized harshly for it.

So no wonder she thinks they resemble a lot. “Kanye is the new Madonna,” she says. “Kanye is the black Madonna. We know, and recognize, that we have that in common [the flare for pushing people’s buttons]. We’re comrades in the envelope-pushing genre.”

In other words, great minds think alike.

Kanye West is a genius

This isn’t the first time Madonna is asked a Kanye question. The association might seem random, but they did get together to work on a track for “Rebel Heart,” hence the interest in knowing her take on him and his art.

In a previous, recent interview, Madonna said that Kanye was a genius who always came up with “excellent” ideas, but he had no patience to be in the studio and actually work on them.

Always the strict perfectionist, she would always be like “the mistress” in the schoolroom, trying to get him to pay attention, to stay off Twitter, to stop making arrangements to be at photoshoots or interviews when they should have been recording.

She explained that working with him had been a privilege, but also a challenge because he seemed unable to focus on just one thing at the time. This kind of behavior is the opposite of how Madonna works, so no wonder she was a bit frustrated with him.
