On the first day of this year’s edition of the New York Fashion Week, Kanye West debuted his newest fashion endeavor, a collection for Adidas Originals. The Yeezy line, which also includes a new shoe, the Yeezy Boot, was duly mocked by industry people, who described it as hobo post-Apocalyptic sportswear, with certain claims to high fashion.

Even Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis said that Kanye was all flash and no substance, mocking him for his latest attempt at proving that he could also do design. Mallis is not alone in this, as fashion publicist and personality Kelly Cutrone also has some words for the rapper turned Renaissance man: stick to the day job.

“He’s not legit”

Cutrone has spoken before of Kanye and his status in the fashion industry and how, despite his claims to the contrary, “no one gives a [expletive] about him,” and he and wife Kim Kardashian are “icons only in their minds.”

The name of Cutrone will probably never be as popular as Kanye’s, but as a famous fashion publicist, critic, author and television personality, she is more reliable than he could ever be when it comes to fashion.

Cutrone knows how things really stand in the industry, and no matter how hard Kanye tries to talk himself up and make himself appear more important than he is, she knows the truth. More importantly, she’s not afraid to call him out on it.

Speaking with People Magazine about his latest offering at the NY Fashion Week, Cutrone says Kanye has exactly zero credibility in the industry because what he offers are not quality products. “I’m not into his fashion thing,” she syas. “I think he’s fine as a rapper. I think he’s a joke as a fashion designer. I mean, it’s not, he’s not legit.”

Don’t quit your day job, Kanye

As per his own words, there’s nothing that Kanye West can’t do once he sets his mind to it. Right now, he wants to take fashion to the next level by sharing some of his genius with the world and delivering to regular people quality products that are not expensive - but most importantly, that are as fashion-forward as they get.

He’d be better off making rap music, Cutrone bluntly says. In life, it’s important to know that thing or things that you’re good at and focus on it or them. Seeing how this is not Kanye’s first foray into fashion design, he should have taken a cue from the previous reviews: the industry doesn’t think he’s cut for the job. In fact, the industry thinks he’s making a fool of himself.

So why bother trying?

“Just because you’re a good rapper doesn’t mean you’re going to be a good fashion designer,” she says, offering as example Diddy’s Sean John line, which is also something like an inside joke with all the big industry players.
