Kanye West was harshly criticized when he first appeared on Kim Kardashian’s reality show, mostly by his fans who believed he was losing credibility as an artist by acting like the regular reality star. In his new interview with the New York Times, he explains why he decided to avoid being on the series.

As we also reported earlier today, Kanye is promoting his upcoming album “Yeezus,” which drops on June 18, with this new interview.

He opens up on a variety of topics including the media bias against him, his fans, his artistry, fashion, and being pretty much a living icon.

At one point, he also talks a bit about Kim, calling her the love of his life and explaining his decision to refuse to be on her and her family’s show anymore.

“That was from a place of love,” he says of the episode in which he’s shown telling Kim how to reorganize her wardrobe.

But then, the backlash came.

“It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore,” Kanye explains.

“And it’s not that I have an issue with the show; I just have an issue with the amount of backlash that I get. Because I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help,” he adds.

He also says that Kim and their unborn baby girl are now his family, and talks about how he’s already feeling very protective of both even though he can’t yet (and won’t for another month or so) be able to speak out of experience on parenthood.

“Well, I just don’t want to talk to America about my family. Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby,” Kanye says, forcing the interviewer to drop the topic.

In saying this, he confirms what Kim has also been saying, namely that their daughter won’t be on the reality show.
