Enough already! Kanye West has proven to us all he's a valuable producer and a talented singer, not to mention an extremely commercially successful artist. But despite his triumph over rival rapper 50 Cent, and the good reviews his album has been getting, Kanye insists on blaming everyone for everything.
And it seems to have dawned on him that he was wrong in the tantrum he threw last Sunday at the VMAs, when he failed to get an award despite having five nominations and insisted he had been discriminated on account of the fact that he is black. After doing some thinking, he came up with a different theory - it's all about profit. And while in the long run he is probably right, I was sort of hoping the whole "MTV used Britney to increase their ratings" was over and done with. But apparently I was wrong.
"I just felt like she wasn't ready and I felt like they had to get their ratings. ... It just shows you it's not a black and white thing; it's a money thing," the rapper stated last Friday. "I felt bad for her too. I felt bad for everyone involved" - including himself, I would say. He probably shed some tears about it too - even though as far as I'm concerned topping the charts and beating veteran Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson at his own game is worth much more and speaks more about the value of a singer than winning a Moonman.
However, Kanye is determined to give us his own opinion on how to stop the Britney trainwreck. It's a bit late, man, this is already old news. "Someone had to be at that practice and be like, 'Wow. This is not good.' All the lip-syncing and everything. I mean, that performance, had it been pulled off perfectly, still wouldn't have been up to par to start off the MTV Awards".
For some reason, West deeply believes that the VMAs are somehow an extremely representative award show. They were, once - but many today believe it's not the case any longer. Kanye however is really interested in waging his own private war with the music station. "[MTV] didn't give me the opportunity to rock the way I wanted to rock. I told the guy at MTV, 'There's only a couple things important in music this year: Umbrella, Amy Winehouse,' " he went on. "It's not just about me. Britney Spears is not important in music, but she's important to the tabloids and stuff like that".
Well, now come on, don't you start as well. Poor Brit Brit's been everybody's favorite punch bag this week, let's just leave her for a while - seeing how this was not even about her in the first place. But I do wonder if we'll ever live to see the day Kanye will admit he's happy and proud of his work (as I'm sure he must be) and leave it at that. But I have a feeling that may take some time.
