Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is somewhat of a controversial game and had its share of criticism, ranging from superficial to buggy. We find it to be quite a decent game that didn't present any problems while playing, but others weren't so fortunate. Most of the problems were (and still are) related with the introduction of Windows Live. The most unlucky ones had even stranger problems. We found several solutions to a few bugs and related issues while searching the official forum and the knowledge base from Eidos.
Problem:My game is running slowly or is pausing/freezing. I have an AMD Dual-core processor, what can I do?
Solution:If you have not already done so, you should download and install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer program which can resolve a multitude of issues with games running on these processors. You can download the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer from
here. If you
already have this installed, it may be an idea to uninstall it, download this one and install it again in case it is an updated version of the one you currently have.
Problem:The game crashes trying to update to the new version of Live from Microsoft.
Solution:The update can also be downloaded manually from
here. This could help a lot of offline players too, since Live is integrated into the main game whether you are online or not.
Problem:The game crashes with an 'Error: Xlive.dll try reinstalling' message, how do I solve this?
Solution:It has been reported that some people are experiencing crashing when trying to launch the game with the error reporting 'Error : Xlive.dll try reinstalling. In order to resolve this issue, you should reinstall the Games for Windows software. Problem:My game is pausing for a few seconds during play and I have an extended feature USB keyboard. What can I do?
Solution:If you are experiencing the game pausing for a few seconds during play and you are using a USB keyboard, which has extended features e.g. media control, scroll wheel etc., the problem may lie with the way windows 'polls' or checks this USB device on your system.
We have been informed that changing the USB connector to a PS/2 connector can solve the problem or using an alternative keyboard will stop windows from pausing your game every few seconds.
You may want to make sure that you have the latest motherboard drivers installed, as these usually include updates for the USB hub which could be at the root of the problem.
If your keyboard comes with specific drivers, it would be best to make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from your keyboard manufacturer's website.
Problem:The game won't launch or it crashes during launch, why?
Solution:Crashing during launching the game can indicate that your PC does not meet the minimum requirements or that the drivers for your graphics card are too old to run the game correctly.
