Those who are into space shooters raise your hand. You? OK, then this piece of news is dedicated to you kind reader, as Kalypso media has announced their new space shooter, Star Assault, due for a September release for the PC, offering tons of "drama."

I swear, that's what the official report says, I'm just passing on the information like any good news editor would. In case you were wondering, the game's got it all: When humankind took to the stars to search out new energy sources, rapid successes brought huge rewards in the advancement of travel, exploration and colonization. Some thought they had taken it too far, they were right. In 2253, the human pioneers found themselves under brutal attack from the vicious alien race dubbed the Sparks. Cut off from Earth due to the destruction of their warp gate, their only route back, the intrepid explorers now must battle for their very survival, and maybe even a way home.

The report hints at a very rich storyline, which makes every campaign give players the chance to pilot a star fighter and accomplish the death-defying missions against the Sparks. Players will have to work their way up through ranks, from humble beginnings in a small ship, improving their skills and eventually being in command of wingmen in battle. Complex opponent A.I. ensures you won't be mastering any predetermined attack patterns, while real-time space jumps make getting from A to B just that bit faster.

But you're going to need more than just fighting skills to accomplish something in this game. Between missions, upgrading one's fly machine is essential to avoid an early union with the great beyond. Shields, reactors and propulsion can be adjusted and replaced in order to stay one step ahead of the enemy. Weapons vary from lasers and rail guns to heat seekers and rockets to give you all the firepower you could possibly need to see off your grizzly foe.

I'm sure that if you're a fan of the genre (and you must be since you've read the whole article), the upper mentioned features are to your liking. Keep in mind, the game ships in September, but do check back every once in a while, as Kalypso will make more details available until then.
