KakaoTalk, one of the most popular messaging services for mobile devices, has just made the jump on Asha phones. The service that claims to have more than 130 million registered users is now trying to expand its user database by launching its application on unsupported, until today, platforms, such as Asha.

As The Next Web points out, the application will be initially available for Nokia Asha 500, Asha 501, Asha 502 and Asha 503, but according to Kakao, the messaging service will be available for additional Asha handsets very soon.

Nokia Asha users already have at least two major messaging services at their disposal, including WhatsApp Messenger and LINE. Both these services have more users than KakaoTalk, so it will be difficult for the latter to increase its presence on the markets where the first two are very popular.

However, KakaoTalk hopes to gain more traction in markets where the Asha range of handsets are becoming more and more popular, including Latin America, Africa and India.

These emerging markets are the bread and butter for Nokia’s Asha family of handsets, which is why KakaoTalk, mainly used in South Korea and Western markets, will be able to gain more users for its messaging service.

For those unfamiliar with it, KakaoTalk is a free messaging application that allows users to chat, send photos and stickers to whomever they wish to keep in touch with. Use of emoticons is possible during chat as well.

Just like the rest of messaging services available on the market, KakaoTalk uses Internet connection, such as 3G, EDGE or Wi-Fi, for messaging.

You can now download KakaoTalk for Asha platform for free via Nokia Store. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with Nokia Asha 500, Asha 501, Asha 502 and Asha 503 devices.
