Kairos is offering a stylish watch with a smart display on top

As was stated many times before, one of the major complains coming from smartwatch users and perspective customers is related to what the devices actually look like.

I argued a while back that for Android Wear devices to really take off, producing companies must really concentrate on the design more. And we have already seen Motorola take the right step into this direction, with its stylish Moto 360 upcoming smartwatch.

However, the relatively unknown Kairos might beat Motorola to the curve, by presenting wearable fans with a smartwatch that comes with a twist.

Unlike many smartwatches today that feature a digital design, Kairos wants to bring the best of both worlds together by providing users with a device that features a mechanical timepiece with the intelligent abilities we have seen in products such as the Samsung Gear 2.

Another atypical feature of the watch is the fact that on top of the mechanical display lies a transparent OLED screen which relays notifications.

The Kairos bundles Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, 3-axis accelerometer, vibration motor, an 180mAh battery which will last users for about 5 to 7 days.

All things are nice and swell, except for the pricing. The Kairos smartwatch will set customers back with a whopping $1,199 / €875 and this alone is guaranteed to keep most people at bay.

However, if you pre-order it, you’ll be able to get it for the more reasonable price of $499 / €364, which is still a lot for a smartwatch.
