A new version of the KaOS distro has been released

KaOS is a Linux distribution built from scratch that uses a modified KDE desktop environment. The developers have just updated system and they have made a series of very important changes.

Very few developers still go through the trouble of building a Linux distribution from scratch. This means that KaOS is not based on another operating system, as it happens with most of the distros out there. It's not a bad idea to build your OS by using a base developed by someone else, but there are other ways to have your cake and eat it too.

The fact that the developers built this OS themselves makes the work a lot harder, but at the same time, it gives them much more freedom. They don't need to worry about what the upstream is doing and they are not tied to any specific schedule.

KaOS is not your average cup of KDE

One of the things that users will notice right from the start with KaOS is the fact that it's not using the default KDE look or anything similar. Most developers don't go through all the trouble of customizing the experience, but it's really worth it. In the case of this distro, KDE is heavily modified and contributes to a unique look that really sets the OS apart. In fact, you can immediately recognize the distro you're looking at just by noticing the KDE implementation.

"KaOS is proud to announce the availability of the November release of a new stable ISO. Since August updates were done to a good 1200 packages and to stay with the policy that a first pacman -Syu should be an uncomplicated one for new users means a new ISO is needed."

"Testing for this ISO took longer than usual, due to the fact that getting ready for an UEFI capable ISO is a must. For that, the interim installer is not a good option, so a lot of work was done to try and get the new Qt5 based installer, Calamares ready, but it is just too early to use on a stable ISO. So this is one last time a BIOS only ISO," writes the developer.

Also, the Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.16.7, the latest KDE 4.14.2 version has been implemented (one more update to go before it reaches EOL), and most of the major applications have received newer versions.
