Telepresence robots have been around for years, but we haven’t heard about them more often, because they are not really consumer friendly products that comes sporting high price tags.

But then, the Indiegogo Revolve Robotics’ KUBI project kick-started with the purpose of bringing a relatively affordable and simple telepresence solution for tablet users today. The KUBI is practically a tablet mount capable of remotely performing a 300-degree scan and 90-degree tilt. So when in a teleconference, users can rotate their view at the other end of the line.

Back when it was first unveiled, KUBI was also spotted bundling two spring-loaded aluminum arms used to pinch the tablet. The robot receives its commands via the embedded Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy.

The cradle functions via an iOS app (the Android one is in the works) and those who have been waiting to grab the invention should know that the KUBI has started shipping out to backers of the project. New customers can also order the device now through the company’s official website but for a higher price than usual.

Stepping into the robotic age will cost you a chunky $499 / €362 if you choose to go for the KUBI Classic and $399 / €290 for the KUBI Hacker Edition (for developers).
