The KOffice team has released version 1.6.1 of their KOffice suite. This is mainly a bug fix release, but Krita and Kexi have some new features added. A vulnerability has been reported in previous versions of KOffice, which can be exploited by malicious people to potentially compromise a user's system. This vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow within the "KLaola::readBigBlockDepot()" method in filters/olefilters/lib/klaola.cc and it can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by e.g. tricking a user into opening a specially crafted PowerPoint (.ppt) file. Successful exploitation may allow the execution of arbitrary code. Please update to KOffice 1.6.1 to fix this problem. This release also includes the following fixes or improvements:* ￭ a frame-based, full-featured word processor (KWord); ￭ a spreadsheet application (KSpread); ￭ a presentation application (KPresenter); ￭ a flowchart application (Kivio); ￭ an integrated database application (Kexi); ￭ a new project management application (KPlato). ￭ a pixel based image editing and paint application (Krita); ￭ a vector-drawing application (Karbon14). KOffice is composed of the following: ￭ KWord - A frame-based word processor capable of professional standard documents ￭ KSpread - A powerful spreadsheet application. ￭ KPresenter - A full-featured presentation program. ￭ Kivio - A Visio-style flowcharting application. ￭ Karbon14 - A vector drawing application. ￭ Krita - A pixel-based image manipulation program like The GIMP or Adobe Photoshop. ￭ Kugar - A tool for generating business quality reports. ￭ KChart - An integrated graph and chart drawing tool. ￭ KFormula - A powerful formula editor. ￭ Kexi - An integrated environment for managing data. ￭ Filters - Import and Export Filters for KOffice.
