KDE Software Compilation 4.5.0 Officially Released

Today, August 10th, KDE e.V. proudly announced the release of the highly anticipated KDE Software Compilation 4.5.0. The official announcement contains 3 separate announcements, for the Development Platform, Plasma Desktop and Netbook, and the Applications.

The KDE Development Platform 4.5.0 comes with improved performance and stability, WebKit integration, and high-speed cache through KSharedDataCache, a memory-mapped caching mechanism. Also, the Phonon Multimedia libraries are now able to use PulseAudio.

In Plasma Desktop and Netbook interface we can find a lot of significant changes, starting with the cleaned notification area, the monochromatic icons, download tracker, and indicators for various operations.

There are also lots of new and breath-taking effects in KWin, as well as many improvements for the netbook interface, all providing a pleasant experience and tremendous performance.

Users can find a vast selection of applications in KDE SC 4.5.0, from productivity and educational programs, to useful utilities and high-quality games for all ages.

Kajongg, is a new game that has been introduced in this release, and it's a four-player Mahjongg. The Konquest game allows users to customize or create maps. Marble features route planning and maps downloader.

Currently, KDE Software Compilation 4.5.0 ships with many packages, including web-development applications, educational tools, administrative programs, and more, all of which are available in over 50 languages.

Woohoo! Can't wait to upgrade my Ubuntu to the new version. I just switched to KDE when version 4.4 came out and love it. It's superb.
