It seems like only yesterday that the KDE SC 4.6.0 was released, but already the team has an update ready. The first monthly bug-fixing release is now available for download and there's every reason to grab it if you're running the latest stable version, or even earlier ones. Since this is only a minor update, there are no new features but that should mean no headaches as well.

"KDE has released a series of updates to the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Frameworks. This update is the first in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.6 series," the KDE team announced.

"4.6.1 brings many bugfixes and translation updates on top of 4.6 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.6.0 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone," it continued.

KDE SC 4.6.1 comes with fixes for Konsole, Dolphin, Kopete and Okular. The KHTML library comes with a bug fix as well. UPS battery monitoring now works in the battery plasmoid.

KDE SC 4.6, apart from including newer versions for all major apps and packages that make up the software compilation also added a couple of new features.

The 'activities' feature got a revamp and should make it easier to create applications groups and workspaces which cater to the type of 'activity' you're performing, work, browsing the web and so on. There is also a new Oxygen GTK theme for app integration.

KDE SC 4.7 is slated for mid-summer release, so there are a few more months to enjoy 4.6. During this time, the team plans to release several more updates, five to be exact, as is the norm with KDE's release schedule. KDE SC 4.6.2 is expected to land one month from now.
