Hot on the heels of the latest and final release candidate for the upcoming KDE SC 4.6 comes KDE SC 4.5.5, the current stable release of the popular desktop environment and software compilation. It's strictly a bug-fixing release, so there should be no issues with the upgrade process. With the next major version launch scheduled for a couple of weeks from now, KDE SC 4.5.5 is also the last release in the 4.5 branch.

"KDE has released a series of updates to the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Frameworks," KDE announced.

"This update is the fifth in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.5 series. 4.5.5 brings bugfixes and translation updates on top of 4.5 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.5.4 or earlier versions," the announcement explained.

"As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone," it added.

Highlights of KDE SC 4.5.5:

· Dolphin no longer scrolls to top in Icons View with enabled grouping when hovering an item's preview with the mouse; · Ark no longer crashes when using unrar-free; · Previewed files in Ark are no longer deleted before the preview dialog had been closed; · The KGpg encryption tool is now compatible with GnuPG 1.x again; · A couple of bug fixes in Kompare.

KDE SC 4.5.5 is a regular scheduled update which fixes some of the remaining bugs in the latest stable release. It should be superseded by KDE SC 4.6 which is due to launch on January 26.

KDE SC 4.5.5 should become available in your distribution's repositories soon, depending on how fast the maintainers move, but you can also grab the source code from the link below.
