The fourth maintenance release of KDE SC 4.5 has landed. KDE SC 4.5.4 is a bug-fixing release but also comes with more translation work. Nothing too glamorous about this update, but it's an important one nonetheless.

Because it's a minor update, users should have no reservations in upgrading to KDE SC 4.5.4. The new version should be landing in your distribution's repositories soon.

Alternatively you can download the source code from below if you just can't wait or you prefer to have custom build. KDE SC 4.6 is expected to land in January.

"Today, KDE has released a series of updates to the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Platform. This update is the fourth in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.5 series," the KDE team announced.

"4.5.4 brings bugfixes and translation updates on top of KDE SC 4.5 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.5.3 or earlier versions," it said in the standard announcement.

"KDE SC 4 is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come," it added.

Highlights of KDE SC 4.5.4:

· Fix issue that folders in Details View are not automatically opened when dragging items and "expandable folders" is disabled in Dolphin; · Fix keyboard navigation problems in Dolphin in Details View if files with very long names are present; · Don't reset the preview settings when changing other settings in Dolphin; · Fix possible crash when opening a folder in a new Konqueror tab in the Details View mode; · Fix crash when pressing Ctrl+R in Kate; · Do not let extra output confuse kdesu and make it think a wrong password has been entered; · Re-add lock failure detection to KSharedDataCache, which was inadvertently removed prior to the 4.5 release.
