Plasma Media Center, a unified media experience on PCs, tablets, netbooks, TVs, and any other device capable of running KDE software, has just reached version 1.3 Beta.

It's been six months since the previous Plasma Media Center 1.2 was released and made available for download. It has numerous interesting features, but users have been starting to wonder if the project will receive updates anytime soon.

According to the changelog, support has been added for fetching media from Baloo (the targeted media should load much faster), a conflict between GStreamer 0.10 and GStreamer 1.0 in some distros will no longer break playback, and more details have been implemented in the All Music mode.

Also, MPRIS (Media Player Remote Interfacing Specification) support has been implemented, some experimental support has been added for a simple filesystem-based media scanner, the side panel has been replaced with a full-screen panel, and the UI has been polished.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement. You can download the Plasma Media Center 1.3 Beta source package right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
