14 DAY TRIAL // The great team of developers behind the KDE Project met in February 2015 in the Blue Systems office in Barcelona, Spain, to discuss and plan the upcoming features that will be implemented in the highly anticipated KDE Plasma 5.3 release.
While some bold Linux distribution developers already adopted the KDE Plasma 5.2 desktop environment in their operating systems, some say that KDE Plasma 5.3 is mature enough to become a drop-in replacement for KDE4.
"Plasma 5 is about to become part of the mainstream Linux distributions and the press coverage is confirming it will continue to be the flagship offering from KDE. We have plans for the years to come, and we welcome anyone who wants to take part joining us."
The above was stated at the end of an announcement related to the Plasma Sprint 2015 meeting, published on April 8 by Jonathan Riddell, the developer of the well-known Kubuntu Linux operating system, and also one of the most notorious KDE developers.
Here's what's coming in the future updates of KDE Plasma
Now, let's talk a little about the features that will be implemented in the upcoming KDE Plasma 5.3 Beta, due for release next week. First, we should mention that KDE developers will get some awesome new tools that will help them more efficiently contribute to the KDE development.
With KDE Plasma 5.3, end-users will get better power management by bringing the KInfoCenter application to life and implementing all sorts of functionality that will provide extra information about battery life. The Plasma Media Center will receive various improvements as well.
Among other features of KDE Plasma 5.3, we can mention KPurpose, a new framework for invoking and sharing actions across applications, better notifications, especially for calendar based alerts, unification of application header space, and improvements to the window decoration space in KDE apps.
