The KDE framework is still under heavy development

The KDE Community has just announced that a Tech Preview of KDE Frameworks 5 has been released, marking the beginning of a new project and the dawn of KDE Platform 4.

The KDE developers have been working very hard to put forth a new structure that is able to incorporate all the aspects of the KDE universe.

According to the announcement, “Frameworks 5 is the result of almost three years of work to plan, modularize, review and port the set of libraries previously known as KDElibs or KDE Platform 4 into a set of Qt Addons with well-defined dependencies and abilities, ready for Qt 5.”

Making the KDE environment as drop-in Qt Addons accelerate and reduce the cost of Qt development and eliminates the need to reinvent key functions. Or at least this is what the developers are telling us.

If everything goes according to plan, a Beta version should be available in April and the final version should arrive in June. In the meantime you can download KDE Frameworks 5 Tech Preview from Softpedia.
