14 DAY TRIAL // KDE Frameworks 5.7.0 has just been released by the KDE Community and the developers have pushed a large number of updates and various fixes. It's a maintenance update, but it's an important one.
Some of the users might not be familiar with KDE Frameworks and they might want to know what happened with the old KDE SC, or Software Compilation. That collection of applications and libraries has been split into three parts, KDE Applications, KDE Frameworks and KDE Desktop. While two of them are pretty clear, Frameworks is a little bit vague. It's basically the underpinning of the project, what users might call "under the hood."
The project has been split in order to make the development process more efficient, and it looks like it worked. The update process has picked up some Steam and numerous updates have been released until now for the 5.x branch. The only problem is that KDE Frameworks, KDE Plasma, and KDE Applications now sport different version numbers, and that might be a little bit confusing.
KDE Frameworks 5.7.0 is ready for upgrade
This is a very important component in the KDE ecosystem and many of the changes that are implemented here have immediate effects on the project. It might not seem that way from the changelog, but any modifications to the underpinning of the project are important.
