On June 12, KDE had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of KDE Frameworks 5.11.0, a collection of over 60 open-source widgets and libraries for the next-generation KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

According to the release notes, KDE Frameworks 5.11.0 is here to add new features or improve existing ones from numerous components, including Plasma Framework, Sonnet, NetworkManagerQt, KXMLGUI, KWidgetsAddons, KTextWidgets, KTextEditor, KService, Kross, KPty, KPeople, Package Framework, and KNotification.

Also, the KNewStuff, KIO, KIconThemes, KGlobalAccel, KEmoticons, KDocTools, KDeclarative, KCoreAddons, KConfig, KCompletion, KCodecs, KAuth, and KActivities components have been updated, and there's some work involved in improving the KDELibs 4 support and Framework integration.

Those of you who want to update to the newly released KDE Frameworks 5.11.0 software collection, can do so right now by opening the default package manager utility of their GNU/Linux distributions and searching for the update. KDE Frameworks 5.11.0 is already available for Arch Linux users.

Here's what's new in Plasma Framework

Because Plasma Framework received a lot of changes, we can report some of the most exciting stuff that landed in the KDE Frameworks 5.11.0 update, such as support for displaying week numbers in calendar comments, QtRendering is now used for the password fields' fonts, and the coloring of the panel's background has been fixed.

Furthermore, the DataEngineStructure function will no longer be used for Applets, the "Could not load applet" message has been removed, the lookup of the AssociatedApplicationManager function has been fixed, and it is now possible to load QML kcms in Plasmoid configuration windows.

Last but not least, the libplasma library has been ported away from sycoca, the scrollbars have been improved to no longer hide automatically each time a touch screen is detected, and the SectionScroller function will now follow ListView.section.criteria in plasmacomponents.
