KDE has had the pleasure of announcing today, April 15, that the KDE Applications 15.04 software suite has been released and is now available for download on a GNU/Linux distribution near you.

KDE Applications 15.04 is a major update that ports a total of 72 apps to the next-generation KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment and KDE Frameworks 5 toolkit.

Among the applications that have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5, we can mention Kdenlive, KDE Telepathy, Kompare, KHangMan, Cantor, Rocs, as well as some of the games from the KDE Games collection.

"With this release a total of 72 applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5," says KDE. "The team is striving to bring the best quality to your desktop and these applications. So we're counting on you to send your feedback."

Kdenlive is now an official KDE project

The good news is that the Kdenlive open-source video editing software has been declared an official KDE project and it was ported to KDE Frameworks 5, which means that you can now use it natively in the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

The new Kdenlive version includes a couple of new features, such as autosaving of new projects and a fixed clip stabilization. The developers of Kdenlive wanted to release the new version along with the KDE Application 15.04 software suite.

On the other hand, the KDE Telepathy instant messaging app was also ported to the Qt5 and KDE Frameworks 5 technologies, but the video and audio call user interface is currently missing from this version, which still uses existing KDE technology.

Cantor, Rocs, and KHangMan received new features as well

The Cantor mathematical software received a new Python 3 backend and "Get Hot New Stuff" categories, the Rocs graph theory IDE has been completely rewritten with a revamped scripting API for graph algorithms and a more general graph document, and KHangMan has gotten a new look.

In addition to the above, Kanagram, a game based on anagrams of words, received an all-new two-player mode and lets players click letters or type them like in previous versions of the software. The Umbrello UML modeller received some stability and usability improvements as well.

Last but not least, the Find function saw various improvements and it can now be limited by category, including operations, class, package, attributes, or interface. The entire changelog for KDE Applications 15.04 can be viewed KDE's site. Distributions like Arch Linux already include the KDE Applications 15.04 packages.
