A new maintenance upgrade has been released

The KDE Project developers announced that KDE Applications 14.12 has been released and is now ready for download and implementation. This is a maintenance update and it's mostly about fixes.

Now that the KDE project has been reorganized into KDE Frameworks 5, KDE Plasma, and KDE Applications, users can finally see some of these packages integrated into operating systems. There is still a long way to go until we'll see a much wider adoption of the new KDE family, but the first steps have been taken with Kubuntu 15.04, Arch Linux, and KaOS. There are probably other distros that have already made them available to the users as well.

Users tend to pay much closer attention to the Plasma package and that's understandable. The desktop is the first thing they see and not too many users notice that the same amount of work goes into KDE Applications, if not more. In any case, great progress has been registered here as well and it's good to see the project releasing the second maintenance version for this new branch.

KDE Applications 14.12.2 is ready for upgrade

The first version in this new branch was released back in December and it looks like KDE's plan to split the project has started to pay off. Updates are arriving faster and with more verve than ever before, and that can only be a good thing.

"Today KDE released the second stability update for KDE Applications 14.12. This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to the anagram game Kanagram, Umbrello UML Modeller, the document viewer Okular and the virtual globe Marble. This release also includes Long Term Support versions of Plasma Workspaces 4.11.16, KDE Development Platform 4.14.5 and the Kontact Suite 4.14.5," said the devs.

If you don't find the packages available in the repositories, you can always download the source from the official website and compile it yourself, although that’s not really recommended unless you know what you're doing.
