The first maintenance release for KDE Applications is here

The KDE Project developers have released KDE Applications 14.12.1, which is the first maintenance update for this brand new branch and product.

The developers from the KDE project have made some important changes and you might have noticed that it no longer says KDE Applications and Platform, jus KDE Applications. Also, you might have spotted the fact that KDE SC is also gone. The project has been split into KDE Frameworks, KDE Plasma, and KDE Applications and they are now quasi-independent.

The 4.12.x branch of KDE Applications is the first version that follows the new direction and it already looks like things are moving at a much faster pace, which was the intention of the KDE developers all along.

The only problem that both the distro developers and regular users will have to face is the fact that KDE Frameworks, KDE Plasma, and KDE Applications will not land with different version numbers, which might be a little bit confusing, at least at first.

KDE Applications 14.12.1 is all about bugfixes

Users need to be get used to the fact that the KDE updates for its various subsystems will start to land much more often. It will be difficult to keep track of everything, but many of them will be just for maintenance purposes so it won't be that hard.

"This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 50 recorded bugfixes include improvements to the archiving tool Ark, Umbrello UML Modeller, the document viewer Okular, the pronunciation learning application Artikulate and remote desktop client KRDC. This release also includes Long Term Support versions of Plasma Workspaces 4.11.15, KDE Development Platform 4.14.4 and the Kontact Suite 4.14.4," is noted in the official announcement.

If you don't find the packages available in the repositories, you can always download the source from the official website and compile it yourself, although that’s not really recommended unless you know what you're doing.
