KDE 4 Krash Packages on SuSE, Kubuntu and Mac OS X

The first packages of Krash have started to appear today for SuSE, Kubuntu and for the first time, Mac OS X: "Packages for the first KDE 4 developers snapshot "Krash" have started appearing. Most exciting are packages for a whole new platform, Mac OS X. More details are on Benjamin Reed's blog. For the traditionalists, packages are available from openSUSE and Kubuntu. your application to KDE 4. Meanwhile, work is continuing on KDE on Windows where developers have successfully got all of kdelibs compiling. Finally, the KDE Women project has a new tutorial to get you started in KDE4 development."

Krash, the first snapshot development of KDE 4 was released about one month ago and has the following highlights:

￭ An initial port of kdelibs, kdebase and kdepimlibs to Qt 4, providing the developer with a wealth of new possibilities. This snapshot uses a preview of the upcoming Qt 4.2.
￭ DBus will be the Inter-Process-Communication protocol used for KDE 4. This snapshot contains an initial implementation. With the use of DBus, KDE will feature improved interoperability with other applications on the Free Desktop. Porting applications to DBus is explained on the porting wiki page.
￭ Phonon is another central feature of KDE4 providing a unified multimedia backend that offers an easy way for application developers to add multimedia capabilities to their applications.
￭ CMake is the new buildsystem used for KDE4.
