The KDE Project just announced the third Beta release of the new 4.12 version of Applications and the KDE Development Platform.

The third Beta version of KDE 4.12 has arrived on time after and just the previous one it’s all about bug fixes and polishing, again.

"With API, dependency and feature freezes in place, the focus is now on fixing bugs and further polishing.”

“With the large number of changes, the 4.12 releases need a thorough testing in order to maintain and improve the quality and user experience. Actual users are critical to maintaining high KDE quality, because developers simply cannot test every possible configuration. We're counting on you to help find bugs early so they can be squashed before the final release” reads the official announcement.

Highlight of the upcoming KDE 4.12 (some features are already available):

• An Extended library API (no MarbleWidget dependency for tasks like parsing, routing) will be added; • Marble Touch will be implemented on Plasma Active; • Support for loading geolocated photos (e.g. in a Gallery activity in Marble Touch) will be added; • Image hints for vocabulary files with images for words have been added; • Support for Custom Lessons has been implemented; • VNC session will no longer auto-reconnect after the connection has been lost; • The KWallet Manager requires the user's password when saving configuration change; • The KNetWalk game will be ported to QML; • Server-side notification filtering for Akonadi has been added; • Support has been added for the KAddressbook printing base’ • Adblock support has been added for Kmail; • KNotes are now working a lot better.

More details about this release can be found in official announcement. Also, you can download the latest KDE 4.12 sources right now from Softpedia.
