According to the latest news on the Web, KDDI, the second largest mobile carrier in Japan, has recently unveiled a new premium mobile phone brand in the country. The lineup comes under the name of iida and is reported to be currently comprised of three handsets.

The first device in the new iida series is the iida G9, which is suggested to have been manufactured by the Japanese/Swedish joint venture Sony Ericsson. The handset comes to the market as a rather good-looking sliding mobile phone, measuring 115 x 50 x 17.4 mm, and it includes a 3-inch TFT touchscreen display able to offer a 480 x 854 pixel resolution, along with an alphanumeric keypad and a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper that features auto focus.

The second mobile phone in the new series is the iida misora, which comes with a flip form factor, though no specific details on what it will provide users with are available at the moment.

The third new device included in the iida brand doesn’t seem to have a name yet. What is known about it however is the fact that it has been developed in collaboration with Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist who is best known for its obsession with dots. As a result, a handbag and a phone dock resembling a dog, both of which are covered with dots, have also been added to the collection.

The new premium brand from KDDI will also include a pico projector that provides support for the iida G9 along with other KDDI handsets, as well as a series of AC adapters that sport different designs and colors. It seems that the only iida mobile phone available for purchase at the moment is the G9. According to the company, the handset will cost only ¥19,600 (about $195) until the first 3,000 units are sold, after which time its price will go up to ¥39,600 ($393).
