One of the updates released on this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle is causing problems to Windows 7 users, as it fails to install on some x64 computers.

Consumers who turned to the Microsoft Community forums are reporting that none of the workarounds suggested by Redmond support engineers worked, so they are now calling for the company not only to provide more details on what’s happening, but also to release a fully working patch.

“Since the recent batch of Windows Updates, I've been unable to complete the installation of KB2868626. I've now tried many times using the suggestions found on the web for the generic 'Failure configuring Windows updates....' type problems (eg install during clean boot, use the MS Fixit auto solutions - but nothing has helped),” one user wrote on the forums.

Basically, the easiest way to deal with this issue until Microsoft reveals a fix is to hide the KB28686226 patch from Windows Update and restore it when a fully working version is up for grabs.
