Best known for his role as the Mac guy in Apple’s TV commercials, actor Justin Long was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he showed a funny SMS conversation on his jailbroken iPhone.

Jimmy Kimmel, an American television host and comedian, is the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late-night talk show that airs on ABC.

After showing a hilarious conversation with a “tween” to Kimmel and the attending crowd, Long hit the iPhone’s home button to reveal that he was wielding a jailbrioken iPhone.

The evidence? Cydia!

Cydia is a repository for applications usable on a jailbroken iPhones and iPod touches.

Cydia was originally released as an open-source alternative to Installer.app on iOS 1.1.x, but quickly became the most popular package manager, following the release of iOS 2.0.

Developed and maintained by iPhone Dev Team member Saurik, the application is iconic in a way that it proves the hacked nature of an iOS device.

Justin Long has one such device, in what is a truly ironical situation for Apple, the company that contracted Long to star as “Mac” in its late Get a Mac campaign.

The campaign, now ended, featured commercials in which Long and John Hodgman (known as “the PC guy”) engage in teasing remarks about the strengths of the Mac, and the weaknesses of PCs.

But hey, least Long is not using a Droid.

To be perfectly clear, Apple does not condone jailbreaking.

In fact, the company even puts up signs in some of its retail stores warning that customers with jailbroken iPhones / iPod touches are not covered under warranty, should something go wrong with their Apple device.
