Once he was out of N’Sync, Justin Timberlake made sure that he always kept mum on topics related to his personal life, regardless of how much speculation they generated in the media. In the latest interview with Vanity Fair, he breaks this golden rule and talks about his famous exes, Britney and Jessica.

Justin admits that what he and Britney had was special, but he also says that it could have never worked out in the long term.

Because of the context in which they came together, the romance was doomed from the start. The day would come – and it did – when they would grow up and realize they simply didn’t belong together.

“I wish her the best – that goes without saying. We haven’t spoken in 9 or 10 years,” Justin says.

He believes the reason why stars choose to date other celebrities is because they finally find someone who can relate to what they’re going through. The same happened with Britney.

“We were two birds of the same feather – small-town kids, doing the same thing. But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense. I won’t speak on her, but at least for me, I was a totally different person,” he says.

“I just don’t think we were normal; there was nothing normal about our existence. We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers,” Justin explains.

Since that’s how they saw themselves and were treated by the entire world, they took everything for granted, including their relationship, which eventually died down.

Justin won’t say if the same happened with Biel, with whom he recently broke up, but he stresses that she’s the most important person in his life right now – and will remain that way for ever.

“She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life. In my 30 years, she is the most special person, O.K.?” Justin says.

He refrains from saying more because he still feels the need “to protect things that are dear to me – for instance, her.”
