14 DAY TRIAL // When the world thinks Justin Timberlake, the world thinks singer, actor and fashion icon. Today, it has become rather hard to say the name of the former *NSYNC-er and not immediately associate his image with an old-school Fedora hat or checkered sweater with low-waist jeans, in what have been deemed impeccable and stylish combinations. Again named by GQ magazine the most stylish man, Justin is also more than eager to share with his fans some of his tips for looking so stunning.
Speaking of fedoras, for which Justin has quite an obsession as many of his fans must have noticed, he tells GQ that one of the biggest mistakes a fashionable man can make is to dress himself around the hat. That is to say, never buy your accessories just because they’re hip, buy them because they actually go with what you already have in your wardrobe – otherwise, you will just come off as a snob, Justin says.
“I do like hats. Like this charity event I went to last night, there was this dude who was so particularly wearing his hat back with some hair sticking out in the front, like he was trying to be in the Brat Pack. He looked like Rob Lowe. I was like, Why? How much time did you take on that? It looked like everything in his outfit revolved around that hat. The thing is, you don’t put your underwear and socks on, then a hat, and then get dressed. And subconsciously, people do that. […] It’s like, Dude, if it takes that much thought, start over.” Justin tells the mag.
In the same interview, the singer and actor, but also fashion designer who has just introduced his latest collection, admits that, when it comes to inspiration, he looks no further than British supermodel Kate Moss. She is, according to Justin, the closest thing to a style icon because, no matter what she puts on (if anything), she looks positively stunning.
“Who’s a style icon? Kate Moss. She looks good in anything. She would look good in one of your T-shirts, in her T-shirt, in a man’s suit, in a huge gown. She even makes nude look stylish. That, to me, is a style icon. She could put a barrel on and it would be some sort of statement.” Justin explains.
