Ever since she started promoting her latest album, “Femme Fatale,” Britney Spears has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism about how she’s not even the fine dancer and entertainer she was 10 years ago. Ex Justin Timberlake would beg to disagree.

As we also noted on several previous occasions, Spears has been getting lots of negative media attention because she no longer seems able to perform as energetically as she once did.

Not even her injured knee would explain such lifeless appearances onstage in front of fans, voices online have been saying for months.

One person that will stick up to Britney, aside from her diehard fans, who will probably be rewarded duly on the upcoming tour, is her ex sweetheart Justin Timberlake.

In his upcoming interview with Playboy, out on newsstands tomorrow (Friday), he says it’s ridiculous to make the same demands of a pop star as those made years back.

“The internet is a cruel place. What a [expletive]ed-up thing to do. In Britney’s defense, if you pulled up a video I did from 2003, I couldn’t do the [stuff] I did then either,” Justin says, as cited by X17 Online.

While on the topic of Internet and how it makes for a good venue for haters to gather and spew venom at people they don’t even know (and will never get to know, like Britney), Justin would take them on a dare.

The star, who will be seen next in the rom-com “Bad Teacher” with Cameron Diaz, would urge haters to say nasty things to Britney’s face – and would even bet money on that they wouldn’t dare to.

“I can’t remember the last conversation I had with her. But this thing that happens online bothers me – these anonymous commenters,” Justin vents.

Just because these comments don’t get directly to a star’s ears, doesn’t mean that they’re not hurtful.

“People think they can say anything and it doesn’t matter to people. I’d love to see the people who comment about Britney online say those things to her face, because they couldn’t,” Timberlake says.

Real stellar singers need not dance to sing. The voice doesn't come from the toes. We live in the age of mediocrity. As for Brittany - no comment, other than I hope she has a great life, and enjoys it all along the way.

I grew up in the 60's so music stars comparisons are pretty tough -- 90% of what we see today, as a general rule, would not make it as a warm-up band in the 60's.
