Being thrust in the spotlight can be “annoying” but not as “traumatic” as he expected

Justin Theroux and his beautiful eyeballs are featured in a spread included in the latest issue of Elle Magazine, which comes accompanied by an interview meant to promote his HBO series “The Leftovers,” but focuses mostly on how his romance with Jennifer Aniston has changed his life.

The two started dating in 2011: the rumor mill says they hooked up on the set of “Wanderlust,” when he was still in a longtime relationship with a New York designer, but they insist they didn’t become romantic until after the split.

Whichever might be the truth, the bottom line is that Justin has been tabloid fodder ever since, which never happened to him in his pre-Aniston years. Unlike some celebrities who find that very frustrating and downright infuriating at times, he thinks it’s amusing.

With the countless reports coming out like clockwork weekly if not more often, that either he’s breaking up with Jen or having a baby with her, Justin chooses to see the funny side of it all.

“I can't get over how terrible the narrative is, just how poorly written it is. It's worse than a telenovela,” he tells Elle magazine. “It's so dramatic. Like, ‘They're broken up, they're together, they're storming out, storming in, rushing out, rushing in.’ They make every celebrity look like a schizophrenic.”

He does have a point: tabloids totally favor the “storming out” after an “explosive” fight angle, and according to them, Justin did a lot of storming out in recent months.

It wasn’t just the media exposure that he had to get accustomed to.

“My life changed a lot. More people are like, ‘Hey, man!’ And I don't think that's from my role in John Adams. But it only changed as much as I engaged with it, and I learned very quickly: Don't ever engage with it. It was a learning curve, but it wasn't as traumatic as you might expect. It's just annoying,” he says.

The worst part is when people he comes in contact with actually believe what they read in the weeklies and then come up to him to congratulate him on the “three-headed baby [they] just had.”

Still, it’s not all been bad. Though Justin had been working in the industry for years before he and Jennifer became an item, there’s no denying that the association with her boosted his profile considerably.

In fact, if we’re to believe some of the most vicious rumors out there, he owes his leading role on “The Leftovers” to her, because being her boyfriend opened doors to him that made the casting possible. She also turned him into a fashion icon and an A-lister, word has it.
