Justin Bieber has always been very open about his admiration for Mark Wahlberg, aka one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, aka former rapper Marky Mark turned CK model turned successful actor.

The Biebs’ admiration for Wahlberg became a certain thing when he landed the CK Underwear modeling job and, whether he liked to or not, he had to address the issue of who was the better model, himself or Mark.

As it turns out, The Biebs made sure Mark was in the loop about his plans of “replacing” him as the face and muscular body of the famous brand.

Bieber sends Wahlberg underwear selfies

If you recall, shortly after Bieber’s ads came out, Mark’s wife, Rhea Wahlberg, took to Twitter to say that her husband would always be the original and the best, if only because he would never agree to have his abs Photoshopped in post-production, or something along those lines.

This got her under heavy fire from the Beliebers, Justin’s loyal fans, and she eventually backed out and issued an apology of sorts. Still, she claimed she had the right to be subjective, so in her eyes, her husband would always be the best.

Chatting with E! News while promoting “Ted 2,” Mark says that he knew Bieber had landed the CK gig because the pop star made sure to let him know before the ads came out. He even included photographic evidence, which was more than Wahlberg had asked for.

“[Bieber] sent me a note saying he was doing [the CK ad] and I was like, ‘Oh, cool,’ and then he sent me a picture and I was like, ‘Dude don’t send me a picture of you in your underwear’,” Mark jokes. “That’s crossing the line. I don’t need to see a picture of you in your underwear. I’ll probably see it when I’m driving down the street, and I’ll still try to avoid it.”

Justin Bieber and his Marky Mark obsession

Justin Bieber isn’t so much eager to be associated with Mark Wahlberg as he’s itching to get a career like he’s had.

When Marky Mark rose to fame, he was more or less the butt of all jokes, but he made several, very smart career moves (the CK Underwear deal being one of them) that turned him into an industry heavyweight.

He branched out into modeling, acting and now producing, and is considered today one of the most bankable names in showbiz. He’s even done solid drama to great critical acclaim, which, if you think about it, isn’t always as easy as it seems at first.

Justin is desperate to do away with his “Baby” / teen heartthrob image and crossing over would help him with that. He tried to do it with the CK deal, but he did not have the success he was counting on.

He recently said he was looking into acting too, but it seems that he’s keeping busy these days with a new studio album, one that he promises will be different, more personal and more appealing to a wider segment.
