Singer's mother did not want him to grow up feeling as if she'd lied to him

Justin Bieber was never a Belieber in Santa Claus. In a new interview, the singer, whose Christmas album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard, says that he never believed in Saint Nick – not even when he was just a child.

According to the pop star, his mother Pattie Mallette did not want him ever to think she'd be lying to him, so she told him the truth from the start, the New York Daily News writes.

“My mom always told me there wasn't a Santa. This was her logic: She thought if I grew up knowing about Santa then finding out he wasn't real, that it would be like she was lying to me,” Justin says.

Pattie also feared that, when Justin grew up and learned Santa was not real, he might think the same of God – and she wanted him to believe in God.

However, even if he knew the truth since he can remember, Justin never took it upon himself to let other kids in the know about Santa.

“I didn’t tell my friends or ruin it for anyone – I was a good kid!” he says.

Each year, instead of pretending that some old fat guy in a red suit had left presents under the Christmas tree, the Bieber family would play a fun game to exchange gifts.

“We played a game on Christmas Day where everyone brought a girl gift and a boy gift. You roll the dice and if you get doubles, you get to pick a present and if you don't, it's the next person's turn,” he says in the same interview.

“Then, the next time you roll doubles you get to choose someone else's present and switch,” Justin explains.

While he can recall at least one year when he wound up with a girl gift, Justin also remembers the game with pleasure, saying it was, at the end of the day, a wonderful occasion to spend time together.
