When you have well over 42 million of followers on Twitter, it’s in your best interest to check your facts before going online with anything, but that’s a lesson pop star Justin Bieber learned just now, after he was called out for lying.

Bieber, as you probably know, is now on tour. A few nights ago, he arrived in Mexico and, in between meeting with fans, signing autographs, performing, partying, and basically having a good time, he also met several of the country’s officials.

Now, he either assumed the President was among them or he deliberately lied to his fans on social media to appear even more important to them, but he tweeted this: “just met some amazing Mexican beliebers and the presidente of Mexico and his familia. now it is showtime. 60,000 tonight. night 1. te amo.”

As it turns out, President Enrique Pena Nieto wasn’t at the meeting and his people instantly denied Bieber’s claims, on the same social networking website, which is, if you ask us, a completely hilarious move. Turns out not everyone wants to be associated with The Biebs.

“La @Presidenciamx desmiente reunión del Titular del Ejecutivo @EPN con el cantante @justinbieber,” Nieto’s team wrote on the official channel. This roughly translates to “we deny the meeting of Head of the Executive with the singer Justin Bieber.”

The “cantante” tried to make amends for his faux-pas promptly, tweeting, “*correction. I met the presidente's family and all their friends in the private meet and greet with all their security. They were very nice.”

Bieber’s most recent tour has been getting a lot of media attention and not because of how he performs on stage. While in Brazil and Argentina, for instance, The Biebs and his posse partied like there was no tomorrow, with countless reports saying police intervention was necessary multiple times to get him to tone it down.

On this occasion, we also have had the (dis)pleasure to read about Bieber’s romantic exploits with for-hire girls.
