Sad news for Beliebers, amazing news for the rest of the world who could never get behind the whole Justin Bieber phenomenon: the 19-year-old Canadian singer has announced on Twitter he is officially done. Really, truly done, for good.

To make matters even worse, he chose the first day of Christmas to break the news to his 48 million followers on Twitter.

“My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring,” he wrote. And, with only a handful of words, the hearts of millions of (mostly teen, mostly female) fans from all around the world broke to pieces.

Justin did offer some explanation for his decision, which, he said, would go in effect after his movie and his new album came out. He blamed the media and naysayers for forcing him into retiring at an age where most people are just getting started, and stressed that this would not mean he was deserting his fans, even if it might feel like it to them.

“The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle,” he said.

“Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER,” Justin added.

The first hint that he might be thinking about quitting showbiz came last week, when, during a radio interview, Justin said he would be out of the game after the album “Complete My Journals” was released.

Showbiz is filled with examples of such early “retirements,” which, in most cases, are just PR stunts meant to boost publicity for a new project.

Since The Biebs hardly needs more publicity, we might as well assume that he’s going down the other route, that of taking a few years off, to allow people to forget his teen heartthrob past and, thus, to allow him to come back as an adult – and be taken seriously for it, which has been his biggest problem so far.
