Come tomorrow, the Beliebers will get the biggest present possible from their idol Justin Bieber: an album to get them into the Christmas spirit, his first of the kind. The pop star talks about it with the latest issue of Billboard magazine. One of the first questions The Biebs takes is on how it was like to work with one of the biggest female singers of all times, Mariah Carey.
The two did a cover of Mariah's smash hit
“All I Want for Christmas” and, while the world believes Bieber should have stayed out of it, he thinks he actually did a good job.
“Yes, that was high. But I grinded it out and we got it down,” the singer says for Billboard.
He also says that his next album, “Under the Mistletoe,” will let the music speak for itself and once more confirm that comparisons between himself and The Beatles (which his own manager, Scooter Braun started) aren't off base.
“All the hype and the kids running down the street screaming, you lose the chance to say that this started because of the music. This album lets the music speak for itself,” Justin says.
“I don’t want to draw comparisons, but there was a band during the British Invasion that had girls screaming at them. I think you know who I’m talking about,” he adds.
In the same interview, Justin, who is also seen on the cover of the magazine with a headline that suggests we're to expect a more mature sound and style from him with his next projects as he crosses into adulthood, recalls a time when he wasn't the world's richest 17-year-old boy.
Because he can still remember a time when he and his family would only be able to celebrate Christmas with help from the local food bank, he's eager to give back to the community.
At the same time, he urges his fans to do the same.
“I remember growing up not having a lot, especially around Christmastime. We had to get stuff from the food bank, so one of the charities we’re helping out is the food bank in my town,” he says.
“I want every one of my fans to feel like they’re helping out the world in some way. And being the one to influence them to do that, that’s something positive I can do with what God’s given me,” Justin adds.
“Under the Mistletoe” is Justin Bieber's first Christmas album. It comprises mostly covers of iconic tracks, but also features some original material. It's out on November 1.
