Justice League Heroes for the Nintendo DS system, developed by Sensory Sweep Studios as a prequel to the console title, lets gamers use the stylus to control and unleash the superpowers of Batman, Superman, The Flash and Wonder Woman. Gamers use objects within the destructible environment against enemies at will and also call in devastating attacks from other DC Comics super heroes like Aquaman and Green Arrow to help save the world from certain destruction.
Two handheld Justice League Heroes games were released at the same time for the GBA and the Nintendo DS systems. The Nintendo DS game shares similar visual style and gameplay mechanics to the console release, but serves as a prequel to its story. This version was developed by Sensory Sweep Studios. The GBA variant is entitled Justice League Heroes: The Flash and focused primarily on The Flash. The game featured 2D sidescrolling action gameplay (similar to 16-bit era games) and a sidestory to the console game's plot. This version was developed by WayForward Technologies.
Most of the superheroes from the DC Comics Universe make their appearance in this game, like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash or The Green Lantern. Each level of the game portrays two superheroes battling an almost never ending amount of villains which try to destroy the world in one way or another. If playing in single player, the gamer can swap characters freely during battle, according to his preferences. As you play the game, more characters and different minigames are unlocked which can then be played when you start another level. Also, different costumes can be unlocked, each individual to the character they were designed for, with the primary goal of putting a twist on the final gameplay of the title.
