Enterprises recommended to move to Windows 10

Windows 10 will debut in approximately one month and enterprises should already start planning the switch to the new operating system, a Gartner analyst believes.

The new operating system will be offered free of charge to consumers running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 on their PCs, but enterprises will still have to pay for the upgrade.

And yet, those that are still on Windows 7 and are planning to switch to a new OS version with enhanced security, stability, and new features should look at Windows 10 and ignore Windows 8.1, Steve Kleynhans, a Gartner analyst, told Computerworld in a statement.

“We’ve been waiting for the right moment to recommend this, to put a fork in [Windows 8.1],” he said.

And his statement pretty much makes sense.

If you're still on Windows 7, there's no reason not to move to Windows 10, not necessarily because it's a more evolved operating system in terms of security and stability, but it's also an overall friendlier business platform that brings features specifically developed for this type of customers.

Same price as for Windows 8

Enterprises that are still running Windows 7 on their computers should have in mind that pricing of Windows 10 is the same as for Windows 8, so why spending the same amount of money on an operating system that's three years older and has fewer features and is not as business oriented as its successor?

At the same time, system requires for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 are exactly the same, which means that any computer capable of running one of them can also run the other without any performance issue.

And last but not least, by choosing Windows 10, enterprises will benefit from longer support, which in their case is pretty critical. The new OS brings tools that are specifically designed to help them manage updates in a much more effective way and thus install only the tools they want, when they want.

Windows 10 is projected to debut on July 29, so there's still enough time for planning.
